About the Project
Endeavour are a team of alternative education providers that seek to develop skills, knowledge and confidence in young people to enrich their lives through education and adventure.
The client’s goal was to transform their existing listed site into a more fit-for-purpose space that they could fully use as an alternative education provider. This included making the building more energy efficient, more accessible and more dynamic.
Our Approach
We began this project with a listed building survey and planned maintenance report to advise on the current condition of their Grade II Listed building. A listed building survey with Fourth Wall is a specialist survey that is usually carried out on historical properties and includes a number of vital services including:
- Legal advice
- Outlining any major repairs
- Identifying major risks
- A detailed survey timeline
- A detailed and high-quality survey report
We also worked with the team at Endeavour through the entire process of getting funding, architectural design, tendering to contractors and project management, and providing guidance when needed.
Listed buildings can prove particularly difficult when it comes to renovations or alterations and, depending on the grade of the building, will usually necessitate the involvement of professionals. The grades are as follows:
Grade I
Buildings of exceptional interest with significant architectural, historical or cultural significance. These buildings have extremely strict regulations protecting them and make up only 2.5% of all listed buildings.
Grade II*
Buildings of particular importance with special interest. These buildings usually warrant preservation due to significant historical or architectural features, and make up 5.8% of all listed buildings.
Grade II
Buildings of special interest that make up 91.7% of all listed buildings.
